Whitney Houston on Oprah Winfrey Show: WelCOME-THROUGH

Whitney @ Oprah

DIVA【回魂拉阔】,掉了一地【鸡皮疙瘩】。
一贯【精明铺陈】的现场演译方式,补救了【毒】伤未愈的嗓质。

Lost touch with my soul
I had no where to turn
I had no where to go
Lost sight of my dream,
Thought it would be the end of me
I thought I’d never make it through
I had no hope to hold on to,
I thought I would break

I didn’t know my own strength
And I crashed down, and I tumbled
But I did not crumble
I got through all the pain
I didn’t know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
I picked myself back up
Hold my head up high
I was not built to break
I didn’t know my own strength

Found hope in my heart,
I found the light to life
My way out the dark
Found all that I need
Here inside of me
I thought I’d never find my way
I thought I’d never lift that weight
I thought I would break

I didn’t know my own strength
And I crashed down, and I tumbled
But I did not crumble
I got through all the pain
I didn’t know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
I picked myself back up
Hold my head up high
I was not built to break
I didn’t know my own strength

There were so many times I
Wondered how I’d get through the night I
Thought took all I could take

I didn’t know my own strength
And I crashed down, and I tumbled
But I did not crumble
I got through all the pain
I didn’t know my own strength
Survived my darkest hour
My faith kept me alive
I picked myself back up
Hold my head up high
I was not built to break
I didn’t know my own strength

【When I think about it now when I sing it, when I started singing it, it went even beyond myself. I went beyond myself because I thought about women who battle cancer. Women who battle bad, domestic situations. I thought about single parents, mothers and fathers. Children who are growing up under such strenuous situations. Not only mine. I went deep down into another place of other people's situations, and I was like, ‘This is for everybody.’】

以下是Oprah 豪言——
I think it's the best interview I've ever done】的完整访问视频:

以下则是部分【精彩语录】:

【Something happens to a man when a woman has that much fame,
I tried to play down all the time.
I used to say, ‘I’m Mrs. Brown, don’t call me Houston.’
We fought hard. We loved hard,
I was so weak to him. I was so weak to the love.】

【One day my mother came to my house.
She walks in with these sheriffs and she says,
‘I have a court junction [sic] here.
Either you’re gonna do it my way or we’re just not gonna do this at all.
We’re both gonna go on TV and you’re gonna retire.
This is not worth it.’

She said,
‘If you move, Bobby, they’re gonna take you down. Don’t you make one move.’
He stood there like he was scared.
She said, ‘I’m not losing you to the world,
I’m not losing you to Satan, I’m not doing this.
I want my daughter back.’】

【I just remember doing the anniversary special
and I remember looking at MichaelMichael Jackson
and I remember looking at myself
and I was getting scared looking at him,
I was looking at myself. I don't want it to be like this...

I always had a fight in me.】

【I’d go to the grocery store,
and people would say: ‘When are you coming out with another record?
I want to hear your song. I want to hear you sing again.’
I felt the warmth of people.
Of the mothers saying,
‘Now that's who I used to listen to when I was growing up.’】

【Oprah: So much seems to be riding on this moment.
Do you think of this as a comeback? Is this a comeback?
Or a come out or a come-through?

Whitney: A come-through. It's a come-through moment.
There's a song on there, R. Kelly wrote it:
‘Don't call it a comeback. I've been here for years.’】

P/S:
这类【煽情】访谈难免【cheesy】,也总会被既定批评【很 drama】,
但听到【共鸣处】还是有其【抚慰效用】。
